Inflating Mat Sleeping
camping question – sleeping mats..?
I am doing my duke of edinburgh practice expedition this weekend and need a sleeping mat, would i be better off with a foam one or a self-inflating one? which one is lighter and which one is smaller? and which one is comfier? thanks!
If I’m doing really rugged hiking in hard conditions, I use my foam pad. It’s lighter, it never “springs a leak,” and if it’s ruined or lost it costs less to replace. For easier hikes I want the comfort of my ThermaRest. With it’s integrated cover, I can easily convert my sleeping pad into a sort of stadium seat which you don’t really appreciate until you’re stuck for a few days wiating out the rain in your tent, with no back support while sitting.
